Squeeze a little onto a soft cotton cloth, rub it in small circles and keep going. For a few seconds the cloth just turns grey; then the black starts coming off — oxidation, old wax, fingerprints, years of hand oils — and under it the metal begins to throw light back at you. That is the moment we are made for.
This is the format we are best known for in workshops across the country. It goes in a toolbox with the motorcycle tools, in a drawer with the jewelry pliers, in a range bag for the bluing and brass. One tube handles dozens of small pieces, because the paste works in a thin film: you never need a glob, only a smear.
When you are done, buff the residue off with a clean part of the cloth. What stays behind is a microscopically thin layer that slows down new tarnish, so the shine holds longer between sessions.
